The Southeast Asia - Latin American Dialogues "SALA* Dialogues"

*SALA /salə/ in Spanish and Portuguese is the main room for meetings

The Latin American Chamber of Commerce (SG) in collaboration with the INSEAD Hoffmann Institute, as a knowledge partner is pleased to invite you to the SALA Dialogues 2024 titled Latin America: A Strategic Pivot in the Global Pursuit of Net Zero Carbon Solutions and Food Security.

The SALA Dialogues provide a platform for critical discussions, addressing global challenges with Latin America taking a leading role in developing solutions.

In 2024, our focus will be on Global Warming and Food Insecurity. Our goal is to identify and implement actionable solutions that open business and investment opportunities within the region (eg. investment projects in green hydrogen).

Why Latin America is Key in Solving Global Warming and Food Insecurity?

Latin America is leading the sustainability agenda in clean energy production. The region's vast resources give it a competitive advantage in producing clean fuels. For example, Chile aims to produce the world's least expensive green hydrogen by 2030 and be a top exporter by 2040. Today, Brazil is the second largest producer of biofuels. Latin America's energy matrix comprises 30% renewable sources, two times more than the world average. In Brazil, that figure is 46%, and in Central America, it is 80%. With the right tools and global collaboration, the region is poised to become a game changer in clean energy production for the world.

Latin America is also the world's breadbasket, with vast arable land and high agricultural productivity systems. As a region of peace ready to feed the world, investment in transport infrastructure and technology is required to fully streamline the supply chain. The region also represents a huge opportunity to develop the food industry by creating verticals from farms to value-added food. Additionally, better regulation or fewer trade barriers are required to access markets and provide people with healthy and nutritious food at affordable prices.

Objectives of the SALA Dialogues:

  • Showcase solutions applicable in Latin America to achieve a reduction in carbon emissions, including green hydrogen, biofuels, lithium, carbon credits, and the decarbonization of agriculture.
  • Highlight key projects that are shaping Latin America's sustainable agenda.
  • Share opportunities for a collaborative solution model to increase agricultural production in a socially and environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Facilitate connections among business leaders across diverse industries, fostering knowledge sharing on transformative solutions for industry-wide decarbonization.
